KELOWNA - People with properties larger than one hectare have until the evening of April 30 to get all their outdoor burning done before such fires are banned for the season.

Even so, they need a permit before lighting their fires and must check that the Venting and Air Quality indexes allow for burning.

Those indexes can be checked by phoning the Outdoor Burning Hotline at 1-855-262-2876 (BURN) after 8 a.m. or on-line at regionaldistrict.com/airquality.

Anyone suspecting that someone is burning illegally can call the Regional Fire Dispatch Center at 250-469-8577.
