Big White workers return home after snow smashed into their building

Workers at Big White Ski Resort displaced after a large amount of snow smashed into their complex have moved back home.

Snow that accumulated from a neighbouring roof slid into the fourplex on Snow Pines Road, causing significant damage to the building at roughly 5 p.m., March 1. Big White Fire Chief Chris Cormack said at the time that 29 residents were displaced.

After the building was assessed by a structural engineer, it was determined three of the four units could be occupied, ski resort senior vice president Michael Ballingall said.

The Canadian Red Cross will be supporting the individuals who can't return home with housing and meals until tomorrow, March 9, he said.

Twelve people will not be return to the complex and most of them have found other places to live.

Ballingall asked Big White residents to be aware that this is the time of year snow is coming down off roofs, so avoid walking underneath them.
