Now that most of B.C. residents over the age of 70 have received their third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, invitations will start going out to younger people.
Those aged 65 to 69 will start getting invitations for boosters later this week and into next week, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said during a news briefing today, Dec. 7.
“Since the beginning of the vaccination program, we have taken a risk-based approach,” Dr. Henry said. “We know the most important risk is age.”
Most of those under the age of 65 will get invitations starting in January based on age and when they got their second dose. The ideal time for a third dose is six to eight months after their second dose.

Most people under 70 got their second dose in June, July and August so won’t be eligible until January.
Eventually, all those who have been vaccinated will be eligible to get a third dose, Dr. Henry said.
There will be an option to get the third dose from a registered pharmacist.
