A BC nurse has been suspended for three weeks after she snapped photos of documents containing the confidential information of more than 100 long-term care residents.

According to a May 29 BC College of Nurses and Midwives decision, licenced practical nurse Samantha Joyce Ballesteros used her phone to take photographs of four pages of a document containing information on 114 residents of a long-term care facility.

"(Ballesteros) had no work-related purpose for obtaining the information," the decision reads.

The nursing regulator also says the Burnaby-based practical nurse then breached an undertaking and failed to cooperate with it during the investigation.

The decision says the incident took place in June 2022 but doesn't say where she was working at the time or give any indication as to why she would want the personal information of the care homes patients.

The College suspended Ballesteros for three weeks and she will also have to take courses in ethics, privacy, responsibility and accountability.

The decision refers to Ballesteros as a former licenced practical nurse and the College's records show she is no longer registered with them.
