Bait car thief sentenced in Vernon

Vernon Courthouse

VERNON - A man who fell for a bait car was sentenced to over a year imprisonment in Vernon court today.

Darcy Every, 37, appeared in court today, Nov. 26, to plead guilty to attempted motor vehicle theft and obstructing a peace office.

He received a 15-month sentence, minus 12 days for time already served in custody. He was also ordered to pay $1,100 in restitution.

On Nov. 18, Every, using a rock and a screwdriver, attempted to steal an F-350 in the west end of Vernon. Unfortunately for Every, the vehicle was a "bait car" and equipped with cameras and alarms in order to catch would-be thieves.

RCMP arrived on scene and arrested Every after a short chase.
