2 deaths linked to COVID outbreaks at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops

Two people have now died in the latest COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Interior Heath is reporting outbreaks in Unit 5S, Unit 7N and Unit 6S of the hospital. There are 26 COVID-19 cases linked to the outbreaks, including 19 patients, seven staff and two deaths, as of Nov. 12.

Unit 5S is a general medical floor, while Unit 7N is an acute general medical ward that specializes in renal and cardiac patients. Unit 6S is a surgical ward.

There are four patient COVID-19 cases in Unit 7N and eight patient cases in Unit 6S.

The first outbreak in the hospital was announced Nov. 2, making it the fourth COVID-19 outbreak the hospital has experienced throughout the pandemic.

Royal Inland Hospital is one of five locations that currently have outbreaks in the health authority.

Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 41 cases, affecting 27 residents and 14 staff and three deaths. Sun Pointe Village long-term care in Kelowna has 10 cases with seven residents and three staff.

Brocklehurst Gemstone long-term care in Kamloops has six cases including four resident and two staff.

Millar College of the Bible in Tappen has 31 cases.
