    City Hall Options
    Council directed staff to investigate two of six options presented to provide efficient municipal operations for the City of West Kelowna. The City has $7.1 million within its Financial Plan to put towards meeting the requirement for an efficient municipal hall facility.

    Local State of Emergency for Gellatly Road
    Council acknowledged the declaration of the state of local emergency by Mayor Doug Findlater on May 12 regarding the slope failure on a section of Gellatly Road. Gellatly Road, from approximately Witt Road to Angus Drive, was closed May 2 due to erosion of the bank on the west side of the road, adjacent to Smith Creek.

It could just as easily be “determination and courage.” Just a year ago, in February 2013, the company’s board of directors announced it would close its doors after ten years of operation, citing insurmountable financial challenges.

    Regional Growth Strategy
    Council agreed not to accept the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s Regional Growth (RGS) Strategy due to concerns with requirements for professional studies that the District does not currently require in its Official Community Plan (OCP). Since OCPs must be consistent with the RGS, this requirement could trigger amendments to existing West Kelowna bylaws.

    No Dog License Fine - Increasing Jan. 1

    The Regional Board has adopted bylaw changes that will see a substantial increase in the fine for the owner of an unlicensed dog.  Starting January 1, any unlicensed dog will be subject to a $300 fine.  The current fine is $100.

    The Draft Water Master Plan Public Outreach Steering Committee presented its findings and recommendations to Council. The committee, struck on May 29, was made up of six members of the community with experience or an interest in water service.
