SILVER SPRING, Md. - A D.C.-area rapper is facing charges after authorities say he and others tried to start a riot.
In court documents, Montgomery County police describe a confrontation that began as officers searched a man in downtown Silver Spring on Monday after a suspected drug deal. Police say 22-year-old Marquis King of Clarksburg, a rapper who goes by Shy Glizzy, approached officers, yelling that they couldn't search without a warrant and trying to get others to join the crowd.
As officers tried to handcuff King, police say he told the crowd that grew to about 50 people to follow police, yelling "They are trying to kill me!"
King was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing and hindering, riot and other offences. Neither King nor a representative could be reached for comment.
