TORONTO - A WestJet plane landed safely at Toronto's Pearson Airport on Thursday on an unscheduled stop due to an engine problem, officials said.

WestJet Flight 585 was headed from Hamilton to Calgary, said airport spokesman Scott Armstrong.

The Boeing 737 had a problem with one of its engines but all 152 people on board were safe, police said.

Officials said the plane was met by emergency crews when it landed.

The plane has been "taken offline" for maintenance, WestJet spokeswoman Brie Ogle said in an email.

She added all passengers were to be put on alternative flights and were expected to reach Calgary Thursday.
