Summer break sports camps are here

Sun Peaks, BC (June 11, 2014) - Just because school is out for the summer soon doesn’t mean learning has to stop. Sun Peaks Resort is offering clinics, camps and lessons in a variety of summer sports for beginner to intermediate athletes. It’s the perfect opportunity for kids to learn new skills and keep active in a spectacular alpine setting.

With tennis participation on the rise in Canada, organizers are expecting the new tennis camps and lessons to bring out fans of rising national tennis stars Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic. Head coach Kelly Hubbard of the Kamloops Tennis Centre will bring his international coaching experience to the recently resurfaced Sun Peaks tennis courts. He will be joined by three other certified coaches to offer a local kids program running every Friday in June, a Junior Summer Tennis Camp from July 14 to 18 and private lessons throughout the summer.

Junior golfers can perfect their swing on B.C.’s highest elevation course. After school Junior Clinics are held every Wednesday in June for 5 to 13 year olds. Throughout the summer, 6 to 13 years olds can take part in Sunday Golf Camps. Students can attend as many sessions as they wish from June 22 to September 21, ranging from $30 for one session to $179 for all eight.

Rated as one of the top bike parks in the world, Sun Peaks’ extensive mountain bike trails provide a range of options for younger bikers. The 5-Day Freeride Camp from July 14 to 18 for low intermediates is coached by local professional riders Dylan Sherrard and Brett Tippie. With a wealth of local trail knowledge, they provide skill development balanced with positive encouragement. The camp will focus on learning single track, berms, jumps, steeps, plus bike setup, maintenance and safety. The full rate is $450 including lift tickets and lunch each day. A daily shuttle service from Kamloops is also available for $80 for all five days.

The Weekend Freeride Camp runs on July 19 to 20, for those ages 10 to 17 years and is $149. For ladies ages 13 years and up, the Women’s Freeride Camps run July 5 - 6 and July 19 - 20 for $179 per camp and including lift tickets, and are coached by local female downhillers who provide a confidence building and positive learning environment.

In the cross country mountain biking realm, introduction to XC lessons, private clinics and guided tours are available to those 13 years and older.

But don’t let the kids have all the fun! Lessons, camps and clinics are also available for adults featuring tennis, golf and biking instruction.
