KELOWNA – If an awkward ride on a chair lift is your idea of a great way to spend Valentine’s Day, then chair lift speed dating at Big White on cupid's favourite day is probably for you.
“Boys in one line, girls in another line, seven minutes on the chair and you can decide to ski down together or not. You get back in line and you go again,” says Big White Senior Vice President Michael Ballingall. “Last year we had just over 600 people participate. It’s popular and fun.”
The chair lift speed dating event takes place on the Bullet Chair, and runs from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. This is the second year the event has taken place, with around 600 participating last year.
The Bullet Chair normally accommodates four skiers, but for speed dating will take only one couple, randomly paired according to their place in line.
“It’s all just luck of the draw,” says Ballingall. “I’m sure people jockey for position but it’s all random. And if the stars are out and the moon is out, it’s a pretty cool time.”
The cost for the chair lift speed dating experience is included with the $10 night ski pass.
Big White will also be taking bookings for couples looking for a romantic ride on their gondola. With candles, music, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, the gondola is an opportunity to spend time with your sweetheart as you glide up the mountain on the most romantic day of the year.
Interested couples must book the gondola ahead of time either at the Concierge Desk or by email.
