KAMLOOPS - RCMP confirm a man died as a result of the injuries sustained after a crash with a semi truck on Highway 5 over the weekend.
The crash between the two vehicles occurred south of Barriere around 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17 and closed the highway in both directions for the remainder of the afternoon.
"Upon attending the scene it was clearly evident that one male had lost his life as a result of the collision," Sgt. Mike Pears with RCMP's Central Interior Traffic Services says in a media release.
The man, in his 40s, was from the Clearwater area. Investigators say a southbound Chevrolet Lumina lost control on the slushy roads and crossed the centre line before colliding with the semi truck.
The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by ambulance to hospital with minor injuries.
The name of the deceased person has not been released. RCMP and the B.C. Coroner's Service continue to investigate the death.
