Police have released the following update: On June 30, 2016 at 6:09 pm, the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious set of circumstances at the Orchard Park Mall, where a witness told police that they observed 2 males in possession of a gun. Police were told that the males were overheard saying that the gun was loaded before they entered into the mall. Through a combined effort between the RCMP and the mall's security. Uniformed officers set up a perimeter around the mall, while plain clothes officers entered the mall, located the suspects and apprehend them without incident.
RCMP have since confirmed that the apparent firearm was in fact an air soft pistol.
The individuals were identified by police as youths to be later released to their guardians.
KELOWNA - Police are on scene at Orchard Park Mall, but police aren't saying much else.
In a release, Kelowna RCMP spokesman Const. Jesse O'Donaghey said the incident began at 6 p.m.
"The RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious set of circumstances at the Orchard Park Mall," he said.
