WEST KELOWNA – A man in West Kelowna was assaulted by two teenagers armed with a rock and a baton last week.

RCMP say the Shannon Lake man was attacked at about 6:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18 in the 3200 block of Sundance Drive in West Kelowna.

The victim was confronted by the youths after he caught them trying to break into a vehicle, according to an RCMP media release.

“That confrontation quickly escalated to violence, when one of the youths allegedly struck the victim with a baton, while the other struck the man with a rock,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release. “Officers of the West Kelowna RCMP detachment, supported by the Kelowna RCMP Police Dog Services section flooded the area in search of the suspects.”

The suspects were tracked down and arrested.

A 16-year-old Kelowna boy and a 15-year-old West Kelowna girl appeared in court on Monday.

RCMP don’t say what charges the suspect are facing or if they remain in custody. Police also don’t say if the victim was injured.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
