Okanagan Wetlands Strategy – workshop, open house, survey

Interested in wetland conservation and management?

Has your organization completed wetland inventory or related projects in the Okanagan?

Are you aware of wetlands that may not currently be mapped or at risk?

The Regional District of Central Okanagan, Okanagan Basin Water Board and BC Wildlife Federation are partnering on the initial phase of an Okanagan Wetlands Strategy to assemble baseline data on Okanagan wetlands.  The primary objectives of this project are to obtain existing baseline wetland data, gauge wetland values and priorities from a diversity of stakeholders, and prioritize and identify stewardship opportunities and data gaps.

A Workshop and Open House will be held for potential stakeholders Thursday, November 28th in the south meeting room of the Okanagan Regional Library Kelowna branch, 1380 Ellis Street.  Guest speakers include biologist, birder and author Dick Cannings, as well as representatives from the BC Wildlife Federation, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, City of Kelowna, and Ecoscape Environmental Consultants Ltd.

The Workshop includes guest speakers and a focus group session from 1:30 to 4:00 pm followed by an Open House from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Interactive mapping tools will be available for those who wish to identify wetland areas of concern.   Ecoscape, the project consultant, will be available to assist with mapping, questions and collection of information.

Those interested in the workshop component are asked to please RSVP to wetlands@ecoscapeltd.com
