VERNON - It’s a vehicle that turns a lot of heads and appears to have caught the eye of a thief in Vernon.

Newfoundland man Jonathan Slaney’s 2007 Subaru Forester, which is retrofitted with a homemade rooftop tent, was stolen sometime between the night of July 17 and the morning of July 18, in the 3400 block of 25 Street where he was house-sitting for a friend. He's been searching tirelessly and found nothing to indicate the car was towed.

Slaney is travelling across B.C. and outfitted the car so he wouldn’t have to use hotels.

“It’s my home while I’m travelling,” he says.

In addition to the roof top tent (which he says could easily be removed by now) the car has dark grey rims, tinted windows and no back seats. It has Newfoundland license plate, JGA 844.

The vehicle contained most of Slaney’s belongings, including clothing and camping gear which he is desperate to get back.

Anyone with information can call Slaney at 1-709-873-5307. He’s already received a number of tips.

“The response has been overwhelming, it’s very encouraging,” he says.

He’s trying not to let the theft get him down.

“I try not to define myself by material things. If I don’t find it, life goes on,” he says.
