KELOWNA - With a growing crop of world-class wines in the Okanagan - which do you choose?

International gastronome Don E. Thompson has just a launched a new website www.Grapeexpectations.co that uses ratings and reviews to guide consumers to the best tasting local wines. It's a strategy Thompson says will help prove Okanagan wineries are up in the ranks with French, Italian and Australian producers.

As it stands Canadian wines rank 31st in the top wine producing countries. Thompson is confident the next few years will see Canada in the top 15 in terms of quality.

How does the website work?

By offering independant reviews from expert tastings of more than 800 wines in Thompson-Okanagan and Similkameen Valley region, prospective consumers get the scoop on the best local wines.

“Our reviews and ratings provide context, how wines here compare with wines made from the same grape varieties worldwide and that helps consumers make good buying decisions,” Thompson says.

At an annual subscription fee of $25 the website will offer its users comprehensive reviews, ratings and helpful advice for buying wine glasses, food pairings and recipes.

“The best way to determine whether you like a given wine is to taste it... But with more than 800 wines made in the Okanagan each year, we believe Grape Expectations can help educate consumers and give them a cost-effective means to narrow their choices.”
