What's new on Netflix Canada, Shomi, CraveTV in September

A monthly look at what's scheduled to be added to the catalogues of streaming services Netflix Canada, Shomi and CraveTV:

CraveTV's launch of its Top 20 Halloween Episodes Collection is bound to inspire thrills, chills and laughs. Beginning Oct. 5, viewers will be able to watch 20 popular Halloween-themed episodes from such series as "South Park," "True Blood," "The Big Bang Theory," "Community," "Veronica Mars" and "Grimm."

CraveTV will also feature "The Roast of Rob Lowe" on Oct. 7 and the music doc "The Rolling Stones Ole Ole Ole!: A Trip Across Latin America" on Oct. 14. Season 4 of the Showtime drama "Ray Donovan" starts Oct. 21, with "fixer" Ray (Liev Schreiber) trying to return to the fold of his family and his church in the wake of his confession to Father Romero (Leland Orser, "Taken"). At the end of the month the streaming service will focus on world champion boxer Muhammad Ali, with a profile and collection of his greatest fights.

Shomi has announced it will shut down on Nov. 30, but new content is still being streamed. The miniseries "Casual Vacancy," based on the novel of the same name by J.K. Rowling, premieres Oct. 14. The 2015 British series, directed by Jonny Campbell from a screenplay by Sarah Phelps, centres around conflicts in a typical English village. Young viewers can binge on the animated "Scooby-Doo!" series, with a dozen titles available.

Netflix premieres "Joy," the David O. Russell film starring Jennifer Lawrence about the rise of the title character as she founds a family business dynasty. The film, which netted Lawrence a Golden Globe for best acting along with an Oscar nomination, streams on Oct. 1.
