B.C. man charged in mother's death as soon as he finished serving jail sentence

SOOKE, B.C. - A 36-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother in Sooke, B.C.

Michael McCormick was arrested Wednesday in the death of 64-year-old Pamela Dyer.

RCMP Cpl. Darren Lagan says McCormick was released into the custody of the Mounties at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre as soon as he finished serving a sentence for uttering threats.

Police say Dyer's body was found at her home by a family friend on July 20.

Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur says police have worked tirelessly for the last two months to answer questions about the woman's death.

McCormick is likely to make a court appearance on Thursday.
