Kelowna Rockets edged in Edmonton

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday in Edmonton as the Rockets continued its four game road trip through the WHL Central Division.

The Rockets outshot Edmonton 36-31 in the game but couldn't score on eight power play opportunities, before Edmonton was able to win the game in a shootout.

Both goaltenders were named stars in the building as Rockets rookie Jake Morrissey faced 31 shots and was solid in the Rockets net.

Oil Kings goalie Tristan Jarry faced 36 shots, including 16 in the third period, with Kelowna pushing for the win, to lead Edmonton to the victory.

Defenceman Joe Gatenby had the Rockets lone goal, scoring his first of the season.

The Rockets earned a point for the shootout loss and now have a 37-8-3-1 record, first overall in the WHL.

The Rockets will now have a day off on its road trip through the WHL Central before finishing with two games this weekend, in Lethbridge Friday and against Kootenay on Saturday.

Kelowna returns to Prospera Place Feb. 6 when they host Kamloops.
