iN PHOTOS: Enchanting cherry blossoms, colourful tulips bloom in Kamloops, Okanagan

The cherry blossoms are just beginning to bloom pink and white in the Okanagan and will soon open up in Kamloops, giving parks and orchards an enchanting appearance, filling the air with delicate fragrance.

The blossoms are celebrated as subjects of photography and backdrops for weddings and other memorable events.

A member of the rose family, cherry blossom trees originated in East Asia centuries ago and today are a national symbol in Japan, traditionally celebrated with food and music under the flowing trees, according to SnapBlooms.

Many countries hold cherry blossom festivals, much like the annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom festival being held until April 25 this year featuring blossom-themed events. Japan donated hundreds of cherry trees to the City of Vancouver in the 1930s.

Tulips are another flower brightening up landscapes and gardens across the southern Interior. The flowers are the subject of celebration and festivals and a popular choice for Mother’s Day bouquets.

Emerging in late winter or early spring, tulips originate from the Far East and the red coloured tulips symbolize a declaration of love, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac

Formerly called the Chilliwack Tulip Festival, the Harrison Tulip Festival in the Fraser Valley is running until May 5 this year where visitors can walk through 10 million tulips.

A tulip festival in Armstrong, the Bloom Flower Festivals, will not be running this year, according to the website.
