KAMLOOPS - A former SD73 teacher charged with possession of child pornography won't enter a plea until next month, after adjourning his arraignment hearing today in Kamloops Provincial Court.
Jerry Waselenkoff, a retired special education teacher, is now scheduled to enter a plea Nov. 25 after hiring a lawyer from Vancouver.
An agent acting on Waselenkoff's behalf in court today requested a three-month adjournment because his new lawyer is tied up with a murder trial in the Lower Mainland. The three-month adjournment request was denied by the justice of the peace because the hearing has already been delayed.
The charge came to light in July after an RCMP investigation involving the Integrated Technological Crimes Unit that investigates electronic devices.
The police investigation had begun in October 2012 and charges were laid at the end of July. A school district representative commented on the allegations after the news broke.
Waselenkoff acted as a special education teacher in the district and created programming to help younger students.
