SALMON ARM - Camera crews and a Food Network host rolled in to Salmon Arm recently for a little piece of the pie.
The TV Series You Gotta Eat Here, hosted by comedian John Catucci, will feature the Shuswap Pie Company, along with The Jammery and The Burner Restaurant and Lounge, in an upcoming episode.
“It was a really fun day,” owner Tovah Shantz says. “John Catucci is great, he made me laugh the whole time.”
Shantz recently bought the business from founder Mary Jo Beirnes, who opened the restaurant five years ago.
The footage, shot on Oct. 25 and 26, will show Shantz teaching Catucci three of the company’s dishes: a strawberry/rhubarb pie, a savoury sausage, apple and sage pie, and a spinach, red pepper and asiago quiche. On Sunday, regulars were invited to dine at the restaurant, where they did interviews for the show.
Shantz doesn’t know when the episode will air, but promises to keep customers updated on the company’s Facebook page. Crews spent some 28 hours filming at the restaurant, and Shantz is eager to see the finished product. Each of the three featured restaurants will claim approximately ten minutes of the half hour show.
She may be slightly nervous about her debut on television, but there’s lots to keep her mind off that.
“I’ll be keeping busy making everyone food,” she says.
