KELOWNA - The Dixie Chicks are adding Kelowna to their Long Time Gone tour, their first through Canada in seven years.
According to a press release, the destination was added because of "overwhelming demand" at other Canadian venues on their list. The event takes place at Prospera Place, October 27, 2013 with doors opening at 7 p.m. and show at 8 p.m.
"We had such a great time playing for our Canadian fans this summer that we've been inspired to come back for more," the band stated.
The Dixie Chicks formed in 1989 in Dallas, Texas as a bluegrass band including founding members and sisters Martie Maguire who plays the fiddle, mandolin and vocals, and Emily Robison who plays banjo, dobro, guitar and vocals. With the addition of lead singer Natalie Maines, the Dixie Chicks have sold over 30 million albums with 1.6 million in Canada alone.
They have won 13 Grammy awards including album of the year for their 2007 album Taking the Long Way. With concert tickets over $100 million, they are also the biggest selling female band of all time.
Tickets can be purchased starting Friday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at www.livenation.com. Charge by phone at 250-762-5050 or purchase at the Prospera Place box office. The price including GST is $59.50 and $89.50 plus FMF and service charges.
