Court prepares for hearing for man accused of shooting Kamloops officer

Police blocked North River Drive to investigate the shooting of one of their own officers during a routine traffic stop Dec. 5, 2014.

KAMLOOPS - Court proceedings are moving forward for a man accused of shooting a cop in December of last year.

Kenneth Michael Knutson faces a host of charges after an incident Dec. 3, 2014. Cpl. Jean-Rene Michaud was shot in the early morning hours, which then led to a massive man hunt in the Batchelor Heights area. His preliminary inquiry will take place Dec. 7.

A preliminary inquiry is a court appearance to determine if there is enough evidence in the case to proceed to trial.

Among his charges, Knutson faces one charge of attempted murder in the commission of a criminal organization, using a restricted firearm and aggravated assault.

Michaud survived several injuries after spending months under intensive care.
