City prepares for Councillor’s memorial service

North Okanagan Regional District chair Patrick Nicol.

VERNON - The City of Vernon is working with the family of Councillor Patrick Nicol and Trinity United Church for the memorial service that is to take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 3rd.

Nicol passed away January 15 after a long battle with cancer. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues, friends and the community for his dedication, hard work and generosity.

The city is anticipating a large turnout for his funeral, and have made plans to accommodate the crowds. There is limited seating at the church, so a live video feed of the service will also be held at Kal Tire Place and The Schubert Centre.

In order to provide additional public parking at the church, the right-hand driving lanes on Alexis Park Drive between 30th Avenue and 39th Avenue will be closed to use on Monday between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The city is requesting the public’s co-operation in reducing congestion and increasing safety by avoiding the Alexis Park Drive area during this time period. Bylaw officers along with Community Policing volunteers and staff will be on hand to direct traffic.

Because of the limited parking spaces at Trinity United Church, street parking will be accommodated and drop-off areas will be provided at the church.
