Vancouver police say crowds at fireworks were relatively well behaved

VANCOUVER - Vancouver police say there were relatively few disruptions at the first night of the Celebration of Light fireworks show.

Officers say of the 250,000 people gathered to watch the show, only about 17 people were temporarily detained without charges.

Dozens of violation tickets were issued and there was only one arrest for public intoxication.

But there were more than 280 liquor pour-outs and seizures.

This year's event runs for three nights — July 26, July 30 and Aug. 2.

The United States performed the first night, and France and Japan will host the following two.

Sgt. Randy Fincham says people appeared to have enjoyed themselves during the first night.
