Bus stop construction on Highway 33 – Rutland Road to Hollywood Road

Beginning next week, bus stop construction on Highway 33 between Rutland Road and Dougall Road will have local traffic impacts.

Intermittent lane closures in the curb lane will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., outside of peak travel times.  Night time lane closures between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. may also take place.  Please watch for signs and obey all traffic control personnel.

Construction is expected to be complete by September 2013.

Background
This transit project, including bus pull-outs on Highway 33, a new Rutland Transit Exchange on Shepherd Road, and other associated roadway and utility improvements is a $4.55-million investment in Rutland.

Three new bus pull-outs on Highway 33 between Dougall and Hollywood roads will be constructed, along with bus stop improvements between Rutland Road and Dougall Road.

The Rutland transit improvements are part of BC Transit’s RapidBus Phase 2 and 3 Project, which includes creating and upgrading transit facilities throughout the region. RapidBus is designed to improve travel time, reliability, passenger comfort and convenience.  It features fast, direct service and modern, attractive amenities.

Kelowna RapidBus is a partnership between Transport Canada, the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, City of Kelowna, District of West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation and BC Transit. Its total cost is $44.5 million. For more information on the RapidBus project, visit kelownarapidbus.ca.
