Artist Althea Thauberger to discuss her latest projects in UBC talk

September 12, 2014 - 3:48 PM

Acclaimed artist Althea Thauberger will give a presentation about her work in a free lecture at UBC’s Okanagan campus at 7 p.m., on Monday, September 22, in Arts building ARTS 103.

Thauberger will discuss her recent projects such as Marat Sade Bohnice (2012), staged in a decommissioned laundry at the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital in Prague, and introduce the public to the research process leading to the production of this international project. She will also talk about earlier films, photographs and artistic endeavours that immersed her in diverse communities such as the Canadian army in Afghanistan and a group of tree planters in BC.

Thauberger is based in Vancouver. Her internationally produced and exhibited work typically involves research and critical reflections of the social histories of her production sites and an extended co-creative process with crew members and the subjects who are represented.

The resulting photography, film/video and performance projects often invoke provocative reflections of social, political, institutional, and aesthetic power relations. Her work has recently been presented at the Audain Gallery, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver; The Power Plant, Toronto; and the 7th Liverpool Biennial.

Pay parking is available on campus.
