VERNON - Charges have been laid in connection with an apartment fire in Vernon last summer allegedly caused when a marijuana extraction system exploded.

Karl James Iverson faces several charges of arson causing bodily harm and damaging property, as well as a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, in relation to the Aug. 14, 2015 fire at Regency Gardens on Okanagan Avenue in Vernon.

According to court records, the charges were sworn Feb. 11, 2016.

Police said the fire started when a marijuana extraction lab exploded in the unit. Those involved, a 21-year-old and 22-year-old, were severely burned and airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital.

A resident of the apartment building said half a dozen tenants were forced out of their homes due to the fire.
