Young pilot found dead as tragic search ends near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS - A young pilot who went missing after a lone flight on Tuesday morning has been found dead near Cache Creek.

Search members found the Single Prop 172 Cessna plane crashed west of Kamloops in the hills near Cache Creek around 6:30 p.m. tonight. It had been missing since Tuesday when the lone pilot and plane were overdue for return at the Kamloops Airport.

The pilot was transferred to Kamloops after found and identified as 16-year-old Lorne Perreault who had been training for his private pilots license.

"The pilot did not have any vital signs," said Captain Ray Jacobson of the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria.

Jacobson would not speculate as to what happened to cause the crash and said the family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.
