Woman suffers extensive facial injuries following Kamloops crash

KAMLOOPS - A crash on Highway 5 near Sun Rivers this morning was caused by a large garbage container blowing around on the highway.

A woman was driving northbound on the highway around 10 a.m. today, Sept. 1, when a large green plastic garbage container blew into her path. She took evasive action and lost control of her GMV Envoy, which left the roadway and slammed into a 10-foot dirt embankment.

Witnesses rushed to the scene and helped administer first aid until emergency crews arrived. The driver, the lone occupant, was transported to hospital with extensive facial injuries.

“There is no doubt someone’s insecure load, the garbage container landing on a very busy highway, led to this collision,” Tk’emlups Rural RCMP Staff Sgt. Doug Aird says in a release.
