A winery in West Kelowna is opening its doors and its wines for a special, public event next week.
The Gallery Winery is typically closed for the winter but on Nov. 12 it will be open as numerous local authors gather to sell books, sign books and raise money for local charities.
“(The Gallery Winery) wanted to help support the authors and the community, so they are opening for this event,” said event organizer Darcy Nybo in a media release. “You are more than welcome to do some wine tasting as you chat to the authors and pick out a few books.”
The authors’ works are included in “Dribbles, Drabbles, and Postcards”, a short story collection as well as their own published novels, children’s books and poetry collections, with over a dozen books to choose from.
The event isn’t just about the books, although that alone is a great reason to come out. All the authors agreed to put a portion of their book sales towards the Central Okanagan Food Bank and/or Paws It Forward dog rescue.
“Aside from books and a fundraiser, it’s also a great way to support a local winery,” Nybo said.

“If you get hungry, the Reggae Fusion food truck will be on site. How can you say no to great books, fabulous wine and tasty food?”

Authors in attendance are Heather Caruso with her children’s book and her short story collection, Dr. Kimberly Brayman with several of her children’s books and Jane Catherine Rozek with her novels that focus on spirituality and self-discovery.
Award-winning author Fern G.Z. Carr will be there with her book of poetry, Stephanie Galay with her horror/thriller novel, and a debut children’s book by Alodene Lewis.
Nybo will be there with her novel, a children’s book and her recent anthology of short stories.
“Local award-winning poet, Sally Quon, will be there as will Eileen Harris,” Nybo said. “We are waiting on more authors to confirm they will be at the signing. How exciting to have several authors’ signatures in one book.”
“There’s something unique and intimate about a personalized message and signature from the author.”
The wine, dine and sign event takes place Nov.12 from 11 a.m. to 3pm at the Gallery Winery in West Kelowna at 2233 Witt Road.
