Wet, grey forecast for Kamloops this weekend

KAMLOOPS - The forecast over the next few days for Kamloops will have residents asking where summer went, with showers and grey skies dominating the weather pattern into next week.

However, Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says early July rains are not that unusual, calling this year’s late spring and early summer weather “about as normal as it can get.”

He says to expect rainy, showery conditions over the next three days before a slow drying trend develops that will see sunny skies and warm temperatures return by around Wednesday next week.

Rainfall amounts for July could be significant over the next few days, something Lundquist says is a “good scenario” for reducing the wildfire threat heading into late July and August.

Kamloops could see as much as 30 millimetres of rain, which is almost as much as the 31 mm the city normally gets through all of July.

Expect periods of rain today, July 4, in Kamloops with as much as 10 mm expected. Winds are expected from the west at 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon with a high of 21 Celsius. Another 10 to 15 mm of rain is expected overnight with a low of 15 C.

More rain is in the forecast tomorrow with five to 10 mm expected and a high of only 18 C.

Showers are forecast to continue overnight Friday and into Saturday, decreasing to a 60 per cent chance of showers and cloudy conditions overnight Saturday. Saturday’s high should reach 20 C.

Sunday through Tuesday next week is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers each day, with a high of 24 C on Sunday, 25 C on Monday and 26 C Tuesday.

Wednesday the sun is expected to return along with summer-like temperatures with a high of 30 C anticipated.

Kamloops' high and low temperatures for this time of year are normally 27 C and 13 C.
