KAMLOOPS - The fate of a vacant Westsyde property could be in the hands of the public with a public hearing scheduled for next week.
The question at hand is whether to rezone 3260 Westsyde Rd. from a commercial space, which it was zoned for in 2011, to residential to make way for a townhouse complex.
There are three proposed styles, all a combination of single family and multi-family dwellings. The proposed development contains a total of 60 units and is adjacent to Westsyde Secondary School.
Traffic is expected to feature prominently in the public debate. This issue was brought up during a regular council meeting by Coun. Ken Christian, and many residents have since taken to social media to note it as a key concern.
The application can be viewed online or at city hall. Written submissions are accepted no later than 4 p.m. the day before the hearing and anyone wanting to speak to the rezoning can attend the public hearing Tuesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
