West Kelowna issued record number of single family home building permits in 2016

January 20, 2017 - 11:30 AM

WEST KELOWNA – Last year West Kelowna approved and issued a record number of single family home building permits, 142 more than in 2015.

According to a media release from the City of West Kelowna, the Development Services Department issued 649 permits in 2016, the highest number yet.

“To say we were extremely busy in 2016 is putting it mildly, and so far in 2017 we are not seeing any signs of a slowdown, in fact, I would say we may be looking at another record breaking year based on the interest we are seeing for larger scale multiple family projects, something we haven't seen a lot of since 2008,” Nancy Henderson of Development Services says in the release.

According to B.C. Population Statistics, West Kelowna's population growth saw a 2.7 per cent bump in 2015. The estimated population of West Kelowna is now 34,930.

"This year, the city is already involved in several large-scale projects including multi-family dwellings," Henderson says. "This is something that the city hasn't seen since 2008."
