A West Kelowna RCMP search warrant turned up thousands of illegal cigarettes this weekend.

Police searched a home on Webber Road where they seized 3,031 cartons of cigarettes, or 30,310 packs, according to a West Kelowna RCMP news release.

“Evidence found at the scene suggests a sophisticated cigarette trafficking operation,” Cpl. Bryan Mulrooney said in the release. “In British Columbia it is illegal to possess or sell cigarettes without a provincial government issued excise stamp.”

The April 29 search warrant was the result of an "extensive operation." Officers also seized four pounds of cannabis, "several" weapons, cash and money counting machines.

Police will be recommending charges against a West Kelowna man for Crown counsel to review, according to the news release.
