iN RESPONSE to May 5 newsletter editorial on a Shuswap man’s lawsuit to protect his right to opioids for required pain medication

As someone who has been prescribed pills for various reasons, though I’ve long been opposed to even pharmaceutical drugs or even Aspirin, I am simply on this man’s side and against the authorities who are abusing their authority in this case. — Patrick Longworth, via email

As always, extremes come and go, ruining lives along the way. The best plan is to allow the doctors to be doctors and the freedom to know what is best for their patient. No outside committee should be in charge of that relationship. If the odd one has abused, that can be dealt with. The alternative for the patient denied pain relief will be to find that relief in other ways, completely distorting the objective in the first place. The meddling in health care by politicians should end! — Diane Courneyeur, via email

I’m in constant pain from an accident. CBD oil capsules work awesome, better than any antidepressants or prescription meds. My husband was addicted to prescription pain meds. He still lives in constant pain. He chooses nothing. Doctors need to work closely with him. Anti-inflammatory supplements, counselling and the gym. He needs to be monitored and weaned off of them. I’ve seen the lasting effects of prescription pain meds misuse and it’s not pretty. Hard work to get off of it. — Desiree Kaskowski, via email

Rockhounds or claim jumpers? Kamloops claim owner frustrated by rock hunters' ignorance

First off this man who owns claims has them everywhere, but they are not marked in any visible way. Most people he comes across he makes a big issue by taking pictures, yelling and calling the cops on them. They are only looking for a couple rocks to add to their collections, not to mine and make big bucks. I would understand if there where clear signs, or what looked to be private makes property, but most of his claims are in places where general hikers and outdoors people could come across and not know they are on his claim. — Carla Sabyan, via iNFOnews.ca

iN RESPONSE to Wednesday, April 9 newsletter editorial asking what readers are basing their vote on in this federal election

Conservatives, an unknown but positive choice for the hated Liberal party, an unknown but possibly positive choice for the hated NDP, and an unknown for the People's Party of Canada though I actually talked to him in regard to a sign of his, he being the only accountable candidate and then the Green candidate. I voted as I did, I didn't spoil my ballot like some people were suggesting that voters should do if "no acceptable candidates were available". My vote made no difference as an unwanted councillor won for an unwanted political party. — Patrick Longworth, via iNFOnews.ca

Election results are a likely reflection of populations who seem incapable of critically thinking about issues. Polarization, coupled with a lack of comprehension re: current affairs (i.e. threats against our nation from a demented head of state to our south) suggests that Canada is largely a nation of easily lead, and mislead, fools.
