A majority of Shuswap residents have decided to keep Sorrento and Blind Bay as part of a regional district.

Eligible voters within the boundary of the proposed Sorrento-Blind Bay Incorporation Area had the opportunity to vote by mail, advance voting or general voting on the question, "are you in favor of the incorporation of the municipality of the District of Sorrento-Blind Bay?"

Preliminary results, based on the ballot accounts prepared at each of the voting places, were released last night, April 30, by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District.

Only 272 voted in favour for Sorrento and Blind Bay to become a municipality while 2,027 votes said no.

Official results of the referendum will be announced before 4 p.m. on May 4.

Once confirmed, the declaration of official results will be posted to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s website.
