Vernon RCMP investigating death of child in 3-storey fall

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is investigating a toddler's death after the child suffered from serious injuries when they fell from a three-storey residential complex.

RCMP received information May 16 the two-year-old suffered serious injuries after falling from the three-storey building in Vernon the day before.

The child fell from a third floor window of a residence in the 3900-block of 29 Street, May 15. at roughly 7:30 p.m. and was transported to the hospital where they died from their injuries, according to a news release issued by the RCMP.

"This is an incredibly tragic event and on behalf of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, we offer our sincerest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of the child," said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, in the press release.

No criminality is suspected and the B.C. Coroner’s Service is conducting an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine how, where, and when and by what means the child came to their unexpected death.

Neither agency will be releasing additional information at this time.
