A Vernon man is facing a number of charges after police found several weapons including a loaded shotgun during a traffic stop yesterday.
RCMP say in a news release they stopped a vehicle yesterday, Feb. 7, after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign in downtown Vernon.
The vehicle was pulled over in the 3000 block of 32 Street at about 11:50 a.m.
Police say the driver, who they searched, was carrying a knife and carbon fibre knuckles, and had a 9mm handgun underneath his seat and easily within reach.
A loaded shotgun and several other weapons were found in a subsequent search of the vehicle, RCMP said. The suspect was also prohibited from driving.
"These weapons have been taken off the street and our community is safer because of it," Vernon RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.
Police haven't released the name of the suspect, but say he is a 34-year old Vernon man.
He was released from custody following a court appearance and another court date.
