VERNON - A suspected drug dealer has been arrested after he was found passed out in the driver's seat of a car.
According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, the 26-year-old Vernon man, was seen by a member of the public passed out in the driver seat of a vehicle shortly before 8 a.m. today, June 26, in the 3900-block of 27 Street in Vernon. The member of the public called the police, and the responding officer upon arrival immediately recognized the man who was wanted on outstanding warrants.
The officer attempted to arrest the man and a struggle took place as the suspect fled from police. The suspect was arrested after a short pursuit on foot.
During the investigation, officers discovered a variety of items associated with drug trafficking that including cash, drugs, prohibited weapons and drug paraphilia.
"This is a great example of the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the police," RCMP media liaison Const. Kelly Brett said in the release. "With the help of the alert citizen that called into the Vernon RCMP we were able to make an arrest and take drugs and weapons off the streets."
A 26-year-old man Vernon man remains in police custody and will face possible charges relating to drug and weapons offences.
