VERNON - RCMP have arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly robbed a Vernon gas station earlier this month while wearing a Deadpool mask.

Police say officers executed a search warrant at the suspect's Vernon home and arrested a man while also seizing items pertaining to the investigation. Police do not say when the search warrant was executed.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, the suspect brandished a weapon and walked into a gas station at the 2400 block 34 Street at around 11 p.m. Aug. 1, wearing a Deadpool mask.

The suspect demanded money and threatened staff with a knife. He left without any cash after taking a drink and a small toy.

"As a result of the initial media release to the public, police received many viable tips and a suspect was identified," RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release.

The 19-year-old man currently remains in custody and the matter is before the courts, RCMP say.
