PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Access to a small lake near Prince George, B.C., is being restricted this weekend as Mounties take steps to halt any further tragedies.
Two teens drowned in Kwitzil Lake, also known as Gravel Pit Lake, early Sunday morning when their SUV rolled into the water as a graduation party was wrapping up.
RCMP say they have learned that an unsanctioned graduation party is planned for the same location west of Prince George this Saturday.
Insp. Brad Anderson says given the horrible circumstances that occurred on May 17, police believe they must cut access to the lake this weekend to protect area young people.
He says there's concern that the use of alcohol and other intoxicants could combine with the high emotions of last weekend's deaths, possibly leading to further incidents.
Grief counsellors have spent several days at all six Prince George-area high schools this week, helping students deal with the deaths of 19-year-old Craig Wood and 17-year-old Kendall Moore.
