Kelowna and Vernon will each take the spotlight next week with the kick-off of a new film production right here in the Okanagan.

Areas of Kelowna, West Kelowna and Summerland will take centre stage for a Vancouver-based TV film production. Stars including Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl, Scream 3) and Natasha Henstridge (The Secret Circle, CSI Miami) are cast in leading roles for the movie titled "A Sister's Nightmare."

Also in the cast are Peyton List (Jessie, Diary of A Wimpy Kid franchise) and Matthew Settle (Gossip Girl, Band of Brothers). The Sepia Films production will be directed by Vic Sarin.

It's not the first time Sepia Films is shooting in Kelowna and producer Kim Roberts said in a release they're excited to be back.

“Our last experience shooting in the Okanagan was extremely positive; we got a fantastic look for the film and it was one of the network’s top performing films last year. We are delighted to be back,” Roberts says.

Another film by the same director will be shooting in Kelowna this August, titled "A Daughter's Nightmare."

Not only will local residents get a chance for a celebrity sighting, but there will also be opportunities to get involved in the film production itself. Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland said in a release the production company will be hiring crew locally which is great for our local industry.

Summerland was unavailable to provide further details.

Filming for the CTV series Amazing Race Canada just wrapped up in Kelowna and the first episode is set to air July 15. Two high-profile commercials will also be filming in the Okanagan, including an ad for Manulife in Kelowna and an ad for Infiniti cars in Osoyoos.
