Medical examiner: Man shot by police died of chest wounds

DANVILLE, Va. - A medical examiner says a Virginia man fatally shot by police died of gunshot wounds to the chest.

Dr. Sara Ohanessian, a medical examiner in the Roanoke office, said Wednesday that Juan (Ju-AHN) Jones of Danville was shot twice.

The 25-year-old Jones was killed by police early Sunday morning. The police department has said officers were responding to a report of a domestic assault whey they encountered Jones.

Bodycam footage released Tuesday shows Jones ignoring police commands and driving away from them, eventually entering a brush-filled area. The video then shows Jones getting out of his car and ignoring further police commands to raise his hands and turning quickly toward officers before they shoot.

Ohanessian says her office is also conducting a toxicology report, the results of which aren't complete.
