HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Prosecutors say a Maryland man with a 1971 kidnapping conviction is a "person of interest" in a woman's disappearance.
Washington County Assistant State's Attorney Daniel Dumproff made the comment Friday at a bond review hearing in Hagerstown for 67-year Jerry Petry of Hancock. Petry's bail was set at $500,000.
Petry was charged Thursday with stealing about $4,000 from the bank account of his missing neighbour, 54-year-old Laurie Hendershot. He's also charged with illegally possessing ammunition and obstructing an investigation.
Assistant Public Defender Alex Hutt says Petry has co-operated in the investigation.
Investigators say Hendershot was last seen July 7, in Petry's company. Petry told investigators he last saw her June 14.
