Central Ohio zoo reports baby boom with births of monkey, red river hogs, black duiker

POWELL, Ohio - The Columbus Zoo says its most recent additions include a monkey that was born last month and is named after a quirky scientist character on the CBS comedy "The Big Bang Theory."

The zoo hasn't explained why the male colobus monkey born March 3 has been named Dr. Sheldon Cooper.

It was the first of four recent births for the zoo's African forest exhibits. Two red river hogs born April 12 are being kept off exhibit for now as their mother cares for them.

The month began with the birth of a black duiker (DEYE'-kur), which is a four-legged, forest-dwelling animal. It is part of the antelope family and is found in parts of Africa.
