Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops and SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon open Saturday for downhill skiing and boarding.

SilverStar's opening is 14 days earlier than scheduled and the hill’s earliest opening since 2005.

Season pass holders at SilverStar can get a jump on the ski season Friday, Nov. 18, according to its website.

Kelowna's Big White Ski Resort is scheduled to open Thursday, Nov. 17, while Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton isn't set to open until Dec. 2.

Two of SilverStar's lifts — Des Schumman Express Gondola and the Comet Chair — will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 19. Day tickets will be offered at 50% off ticket window prices until more lifts open.

At Sun Peaks, skiers and boarders can get up to 40% off if they buy online and they can get a free beer from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Masa’s Bar and Grill by showing their lift ticket or season’s pass.

Sun Peaks currently has a 49 centimetre alpine base and Big White has an 83 cm alpine base. Silver Star doesn’t currently list a base on its website.

Apex Mountain has alpine base was 95 cm as of Nov. 12, but it isn't opening until Dec. 2. The resort's Facebook page says that’s a week earlier than scheduled after it got snow earlier than expected.
