If the weather continues to cooperate, Big White Ski Resort could have its earliest opening day since 2015 and it could be the first ski resort in B.C. to open for the 2022 season.

With an estimated 114 centimetres of snow so far — creating a base of 62 cm in the Village — Big White is gearing up to open on Nov. 17, a week ahead of schedule.

“We’ve always had the policy to open as soon as runs permit, and we’re confident that we’ll be able to offer up a good selection of green runs in just over a week,” Michael J. Ballingall, Big White’s senior vice-president, said in a news release issued today, Nov. 8.

“After a couple of hard years in the tourism world, and having to close early multiple years in a row, we are very excited to give our pass holders, locals and residents of British Columbia, a chance to hit the slopes as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

The Plaza and the Ridge Rocket Express chair lifts will open at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, and skiers can take advantage of an opening day 50% discount on the window price of lift passes until a second detached quad chair begins running.

Tickets have to be bought online, here.

It would be the earliest opening day since the 2015-16 season.
